It was supposed to be the end—but it turned out to be the beginning of everything.
On what felt like the final chapter of a five-and-a-half-year relationship, “TODAY” host Savannah Guthrie had made up her mind. That morning, she told her longtime boyfriend Michael Feldman that things weren’t working out. She was ready to move on. Little did she know, he had already packed something more than just clothes for their beach getaway—a diamond ring.
Later that day, unaware of the emotional whirlwind awaiting her, Guthrie continued with the trip. Feldman, who had secretly planned to propose during their vacation, chose not to let the breakup derail his plan. As the sun dipped below the horizon, he invited her out onto the balcony with two glasses of champagne. Then, in the most unexpected twist, he got down on one knee.
Guthrie was stunned. The man she had just broken up with was now offering forever. Her shock quickly turned to emotion, and despite the rollercoaster of the day, she said yes.
The couple went on to marry in 2014 and now share two children, building a life that almost never happened. Guthrie recently recounted the wild turn of events on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” leaving the audience gasping in disbelief.
