Kamala Harris branded a ‘hypocrite’ after furious fans spot detail from shopping trip with husband Doug Emhoff

Fans are furious after former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff were spotted carrying plastic bags during a recent grocery store run.

Harris, 60, who previously advocated for banning plastic straws during her first unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2019, was seen at the 99 Ranch Market Asian Grocery store in Westwood, California on Thursday.

While speculation over her marriage to Doug Emhoff swirls – fans were quick to point out another problem with the outing. The pair were carrying plastic bags.

‘WTF? Is that Kamala Harris toting a #platic bag of groceries?? What an out-of-touch HYPOCRITE with zero self-awareness!’ one user commented on X, formerly Twitter.

Kamala first endorsed the plastic ban during a climate change town hall with CNN in September 2019.

‘I think we should, yes,’ Harris said when asked if she supported the idea.

She laughed and added that it was ‘difficult’ to drink out of a paper straw, suggesting the replacement needed more innovation.

‘We gotta kind of perfect that one a little bit more,’ she added.

By 2024, she reversed that stance and has since dropped the suggested ban.

The plastic bag now stands in contrast to what the American would have perceived her to be: an environmentalist, given California’s 10-cent fine on single-use bags and the long-term impact on the environment that plastics may pose.

‘Why is SHE using plastic bags?’ one user questioned.

‘Plastic bags are okay as long as you buy them from the store according to the state of California,’ another commented.

Another chimed in: ‘I guess these are eco friendly bags?’

‘Hypocrisy at its finest,’ another opined.

Others suggested the entire trip was ‘staged’ proposing the fading politician went out into ‘the wild’ to garner attention.

‘Kamala and Doug fake grocery shop while someone takes a video to post on the internet, because they are politically irrelevant and can’t stand it,’ another added.

‘Hey honey, let’s fake grocery shop just like we faked being serious politicians,”‘ commented another.

Some chimed in to back up the former presidential candidate, claiming the bags are actually ‘eco-friendly’ and ‘reusable.’

‘Quick clarification with the plastic bags. Here in California, they decided to allow grocery stores to distribute these thicker, reusable plastic bags. So, that’s what they’re using, rather than the thin plastic bags you get in most other states,’ the user wrote on X.

Harris’ shock decision to walk back her controversial position on straws proved to be an attempt by her failed campaign to make the Dem candidate seem ‘more practical’ on a host of issues.

The couple’s outing comes as insiders reveal their marriage is in turmoil after Trump’s election win and return to the White House.

Daily Mail revealed earlier this week that  Kamala is blaming Doug privately for the crushing election defeat, and is considering her options ahead of her next political move.

‘There’s plenty of blame to go around as far as Kamala is concerned and Doug has his share,’ a source said.
