Sunny Hostin Sparks Firestorm After Comparing January 6 to Slavery and the Holocaust!

In a jaw-dropping moment on The View, co-host Sunny Hostin ignited outrage after comparing the January 6 Capitol riots to some of the darkest chapters in human history, including slavery, World War II, and the Holocaust.

During Monday’s episode, the panel launched into a heated debate over the insurrection, prompting Hostin, 56, to unleash a fiery monologue.

The View's Sunny Hostin compared the January 6 'atrocity' to slavery and the Holocaust while arguing that Americans should not 'move on' from the insurrection

“I think we need to find moral clarity in this country,” she stated, arguing that Americans are beginning to “backtrack” on their stance regarding the 2021 attack.

She placed the blame “squarely on Trump’s shoulders” and even praised Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for holding the former president accountable.

However, it was Hostin’s response to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s 2021 remarks that sent shockwaves through the audience.

A heated discussion about the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots arose during the talk show's Monday episode

Back in October 2021, Rice appeared on The View and urged Americans to move on from the insurrection, stating, “It’s time to move on.” But Hostin vehemently rejected that notion.

“I say no, you don’t move on because January 6 was an atrocity, it was one of the worst moments in American history,” she declared.

“And when you think about the worst moments in American history—like World War II, the Holocaust, chattel slavery—we need to never forget. Because if you forget and erase, the past becomes prologue.”

Hostin’s shocking comparison immediately sparked an online firestorm. Social media erupted with users condemning her statements as “tone-deaf” and “historically ignorant.”

“That’s a bold and absolutely atrocious statement,” one X (formerly Twitter) user fumed. “What a slap in the face to those who suffered at the hands of true evil.”

Another chimed in: “Comparing the protest to the Holocaust and slavery is beyond idiotic. Historically speaking.”

Over the course of the episode, the hosts discussed and debated several other 'hot topics,' including Jimmy Carter's death and the 2024 election

Critics also reminded Hostin of other attacks on the U.S. Capitol, including bombings in 1915, 1971, and 1983.

“Lady, you don’t know your history,” one user snapped. “Do you remember Pearl Harbor? 9/11? Those were atrocities. Quit comparing everything to the Holocaust and/or slavery.”

Meanwhile, The View co-hosts tackled other hot topics throughout the episode, including former President Jimmy Carter’s declining health and the upcoming 2024 election.

Hostin called out  former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for saying it was time to 'move on' from the January 6 riots while appearing on the view in October 2021

In a surprising twist last December, Hostin admitted that she may have underestimated Trump’s appeal to working-class Americans, signaling a rare moment of reflection.

“Maybe it’s time for the Democrats to do a little bit of this postmortem,” she confessed.

But Monday’s remarks may prove that Hostin’s self-reflection was short-lived, as critics continue to blast her for what they see as inflammatory and divisive rhetoric.

Is Hostin’s comparison justified, or is this another example of media hyperbole? The debate rages on.
