Roseanne Barr’s Shocking Revelations: ‘I Would Die Many Times’ After Betrayal That Destroyed Her Life

Roseanne Barr has broken her silence once again, revealing the painful details of her shocking Hollywood downfall.

In a raw and emotional tell-all, the comedy legend shared how her abrupt dismissal from television plunged her into despair, and how she holds former co-star Sara Gilbert responsible for the devastation that followed.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Barr, once the reigning queen of primetime television, saw her career vanish overnight in 2018 after posting a controversial tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to Barack Obama.

The backlash was immediate.

ABC swiftly canceled the highly successful revival of Roseanne, despite it being the network’s top-rated scripted show.

Though Barr deleted the tweet and apologized, the damage was done.

The network didn’t hesitate to pull the plug on her career.

Instead of salvaging the series with an apology or explanation, ABC chose to remove her entirely and launch a rebranded spinoff, The Conners, killing off her character in the process.

Since then, Barr has largely withdrawn from public life, making only rare appearances, including a 2019 comedy tour with Andrew Dice Clay.

She also admitted in a 2023 interview that stepping away from social media has been a huge relief: “I’m not on Twitter.

That’s been a great thing for me, to be off that.

A Deep Betrayal: Sara Gilbert’s Role in the Fallout

Among the many wounds left by her firing, Barr has repeatedly pointed to Sara Gilbert, who played her on-screen daughter Darlene, as one of the main reasons for her downfall.

Gilbert publicly condemned Barr’s remarks at the height of the controversy, tweeting: “Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew.

Barr didn’t hold back in her response, blaming Gilbert for the backlash that sealed her fate: “She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet.

She will never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine Chianti.

Their once-close relationship crumbled as Gilbert continued discussing the situation on her now-canceled talk show, The Talk.

Eventually, Barr confronted her directly, issuing a firm warning: “You better shut your blanking mouth about me, I’m telling you.

You better shut your [. . . ] mouth. According to Barr, Gilbert’s public statements stopped after that.

Fighting to Move On

The fallout from her career collapse left Barr feeling abandoned by the industry she once dominated.

Reflecting on the experience, she compared herself to other comedians who faced controversy but were not erased entirely:

“I’m the only person who’s lost everything, whose life’s work was stolen by people I thought loved me.

Despite the pain, she found solace in the support of a few, including fellow comedian Mo’Nique, whom she called a “brave, close, dear friend.

Barr has since focused on healing and rebuilding, channeling her energy into new creative endeavors.

In January 2025, she announced an unexpected return to television, working on a bold, boundary-pushing comedy series with Roseanne and Arli$$ alum Allan Stephan.

The show, set in a small Alabama town, follows Barr’s character as a farmer taking on drug gangs and foreign interference while running an underground business selling cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms.

Describing the series as “a mix of The Sopranos and Roseanne,” Barr promised “very offensive ideas and a lot of swearing.
