Michael J. Fox Gets Emotional Reflecting on Wife’s Unwavering Support

For over three decades, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan have stood side by side, proving the true meaning of love and commitment.

When Pollan vowed to be with Fox “in sickness and in health,” she meant every word—especially after his Parkinson’s diagnosis just three years into their marriage.

Recently, the beloved actor became visibly emotional while speaking about his wife’s steadfast support, describing how she never hesitated when faced with the difficult reality of his condition.

“One of the things I’ll always love Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn’t blink,” Fox admitted.

A Love Story That Stood the Test of Time

Fox skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s as the charming and ambitious Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties, a role that made him a household name.

It was on the set of the hit sitcom that he met Tracy Pollan, who played his on-screen love interest, Ellen Reed.

Their chemistry was undeniable, and in 1988, the two tied the knot at the height of Fox’s career.

Fox went on to achieve international stardom as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy, while Pollan built a successful career of her own.

But just a few years into their marriage, their lives changed forever when Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 29.

In 1991, Fox received the devastating diagnosis—a moment he recalls as one of the most difficult of his life. At the time, doctors told him he would only have about 10 years left to work.

“The hardest part of my diagnosis was grappling with the certainty of the disease and the uncertainty of the situation,” Fox revealed. “I only knew it would get worse.”

Despite the challenges, Pollan never wavered in her commitment. “She made it clear that she was with me for the duration,” Fox said, his voice filled with gratitude.

A Devoted Wife and Mother

Over the years, Fox and Pollan built a beautiful life together, raising four children: Sam, 34, twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler, 29, and their youngest, Esmé, 22. Their family has been a source of strength, with their children showing remarkable empathy and resilience in supporting their father.

“They don’t make a big deal out of it,” Fox said. “If I need help, they just do it and move on.”

The Secret to Their Lasting Marriage

When asked about the key to their enduring relationship, Pollan shared, “We really listen to each other. We’re there when we need to be and give each other space when necessary.”

Fox echoed the sentiment, calling Pollan the heart of their family.

“Any good in our family, anything good that we do, comes from her,” he said.

Despite the challenges Parkinson’s has brought, Fox continues to advocate for research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has raised nearly $2 billion for Parkinson’s research.

His unwavering optimism and sharp wit remain intact, and he credits much of his strength to Pollan’s support.

“She’s been there on the front lines with me every single day,” he said. “She never pretends to know as much as I do, but she’s always there.”

Through it all, their love story continues to inspire. Fox, ever the optimist, jokes, “I’ll be survived by my reruns. That gives me a little bit of immortality.”
