Media Erupts After Trump’s Shocking Charlottesville Comments: “Disgusting”

Outrage has erupted across the media landscape after President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks on Tuesday, in which he blamed “both sides” for the deadly violence in Charlottesville. His refusal to unequivocally denounce white supremacists has drawn sharp criticism from journalists across the political spectrum.

CNN’s Don Lemon: “The Real Donald Trump”

CNN anchor Don Lemon delivered a scathing rebuke of Trump’s comments, calling the moment a “sad day for America.”

“This was the real Donald Trump on display,” Lemon said. “Today, he proved all his critics right—that he is unwilling or unable to condemn white supremacy without hesitation.”

Lemon slammed Trump for drawing false equivalence between neo-Nazis and those protesting against them, declaring:

“One is a Nazi, white supremacist group. The other is a protest group. They are not the same.

He also accused Trump of being ignorant of American history:

“People who look like me didn’t arrive on the Nina, the Pinta, or the Santa Maria. And the people in that crowd want to keep people like me enslaved. The president should go back to school and get an elementary education.”

Another reaction that drew significant attention on social media was that of Fox News host Kat Timpf (above), a co-host of the right-leaning channel¿s show The Fox News Specialists

Fox News’ Kat Timpf: “One of the Biggest Messes I’ve Ever Seen”

While Fox News is often seen as pro-Trump, even some of its hosts were shocked by the president’s statements. Kat Timpf, a co-host of “The Fox News Specialists,” did not hold back in her reaction.

“I’m still wondering if what I just watched was real life. It was one of the biggest messes I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe it happened.”

Timpf was particularly outraged by Trump’s failure to call the car attack an act of terrorism, pointing out his past eagerness to label other incidents as such when committed by Muslim attackers.

Timpf also slammed Trump (seen above Tuesday during his news conference at Trump Tower) for refusing to call the suspect who rammed his car into a crowd of anti-fascist protesters a terrorist and for waiting a full two days before condemning white supremacists

“I’m surprised he didn’t say, ‘This was clearly an Islamic terrorist!’ He’s never been measured in his criticism before. Why now?

She also expressed frustration that Trump took 48 hours to clearly condemn white supremacists:

“It shouldn’t be controversial to say that a crowd full of white supremacist Nazis doesn’t have ‘fine people’ in it. They’re all bad people. Period.

Widespread Backlash as Trump Defends His Remarks

Trump, standing firm against the criticism, defended himself, saying:

“You don’t make statements that direct unless you know the facts.”

However, critics argue that Trump has never shown restraint in the past, often rushing to judgment when the attacker was Muslim or an immigrant.

Timpf summed up the feelings of many in the media with her closing remark:

“The fact that this is even a debate is disgusting.”

A Crisis for Trump, A Test for America

With condemnation coming from both liberal and conservative voices, Trump now faces one of the biggest political firestorms of his presidency. His handling of the Charlottesville violence has not only divided the nation but has left many questioning whether the president is capable of true moral leadership.

As the controversy rages on, one thing is clear: This moment will not be forgotten.
