Gal Gadot Stands Firm Amid Backlash: “I Had to Speak Up for My Homeland”
Hollywood actress Gal Gadot has responded to the wave of criticism she faced after publicly voicing support for Israel, stating that she was “shocked” by the level of hate but remained steadfast in her stance.
In a recent interview with Variety, the Wonder Woman star addressed the backlash, explaining that she felt compelled to speak up following the events of October 7, 2023.
“I don’t talk politics because, honestly, who cares what a celebrity thinks about politics? I’m an artist—I want to entertain people and bring hope,” Gadot said.
“But when innocent men, women, and children were abducted from their homes, I could not be silent.”
Facing Intense Criticism
Gadot, 39, admitted she was unprepared for the sheer volume of negativity she received after expressing her views.
“The amount of hate, the way people think they know everything when they actually have no idea—it was shocking,” she said.
She also called out what she believes to be media bias, stating, “I’ve been taken aback by how unfair the media can be at times.”
Despite the controversy, Gadot insists her advocacy is rooted in her heritage and personal experiences.
“I am the grandchild of a Holocaust survivor who built a life in Israel after his family was erased in Auschwitz,” she explained.
“I am an eighth-generation Israeli. This is my homeland.”
Protests Erupt at Walk of Fame Ceremony
Just hours after her interview was published, Gadot’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony was disrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
Protesters gathered outside the event, holding signs and chanting slogans condemning U.S. financial support for Israel.
At one point, tensions escalated when a protester allegedly stole an Israeli flag, prompting police intervention.
During her acceptance speech, Gadot remained composed.
“I’m just a girl from a small town in Israel,” she said.
“This star will remind me that with hard work, passion, and faith, anything is possible.”
A Divisive Stance in Hollywood
Gadot’s unwavering support for Israel has reportedly created tensions within the industry, including with her Snow White co-star Rachel Zegler, a vocal supporter of the Free Palestine movement.
A source recently told People that the two actresses “are not friends” and are promoting the film separately due to their differing views.
As the conflict in the Middle East continues, Gadot remains firm in her beliefs.
“When your compass is clear, your conscience is clean,” she said, emphasizing that her goal is not division, but standing up for those who need a voice.
