Dylan Dreyer Bids an Emotional Farewell to Weekend Today After Nearly a Decade: ‘It’s Time for Family’

The beloved meteorologist reflects on her incredible journey as she steps away from weekend broadcasts to focus on her growing family.

After nearly 10 years of bringing viewers their weekend forecasts, Dylan Dreyer is saying goodbye to Weekend Today.

On Saturday, the 40-year-old meteorologist officially signed off from the morning show, marking the end of an era with a heartfelt farewell and a tear-jerking video montage highlighting her journey.

“I started in September 2012, and I got married in October,” Dreyer reflected.

“So, in the time I’ve been on Weekend Today, I’ve gotten married and had three sons. It’s really incredible to look back and think about everything I’ve been through—not to mention everything I’ve done on the show.”

A Tough Goodbye: ‘I Just Can’t Do Six Days a Week Anymore’

While Dreyer insisted that she didn’t want to step away, she admitted that balancing work and family had become too much.

“I just don’t think I can do six days a week anymore,” she explained. “The boys certainly keep me busy.”

Dreyer and her husband, Brian Fichera, share three sons:

With her growing family at home, the decision to step away became clear.

What’s Next? ‘It’s All About Family Time’

When asked by host Morgan Radford how she plans to spend her free Saturdays, Dreyer’s answer was simple—quality time with her boys.

“I wish I could say I’ll sleep in, but I know I’ll probably be up making pancakes for the boys,” she laughed.

She emphasized that while the Today show can be demanding, her priority is now cherishing every moment with her family.

“This job can get crazy, especially with all the travel,” Dreyer explained. “But at the end of the day, it’s so important to make time for family, too.”

“Brian and I love being a team on weekends. We just want to spend as much time as we can with the boys, having fun and making memories.”

A Meteorologist, A Mom, and A Role Model

Dreyer’s farewell comes just as she recently returned from a four-month maternity leave after welcoming baby Russell.

Back at work for only a week, she admitted that it felt like she had never left—but balancing her career with three kids hasn’t been easy.

In an October interview with MSNBC’s Know Your Value, Dreyer revealed her biggest concern about returning:

“What I’m most worried about is the travel—just being on the road, pumping, and leaving three kids at home. I’m kind of terrified about it.”

Fortunately, she credits her husband, Brian Fichera, for being her rock.

“He always says, ‘The lessons you’re teaching our boys by working as hard as you do will stay with them forever.’ That makes me feel better and less guilty about working.”

And for Dreyer, that’s what it’s all about:

“I want to show my boys that you work hard to get the things you want in life,” she said.

Not a Goodbye—Just a New Chapter

While she’s stepping away from Weekend Today, Dreyer isn’t leaving the Today family entirely.

She will continue to appear on the weekday editions of Today and 3rd Hour of Today, keeping her loyal viewers updated on the latest weather.

As she closed her final show, Dreyer left with a heart full of gratitude—not just for the career she’s built, but for the family she’s prioritizing moving forward.

“This isn’t goodbye,” she reassured fans. “It’s just time for a new chapter—one filled with pancakes, playtime, and plenty of cuddles with my boys.”
