Dylan Dreyer Announces She’s “Maxed Out” and Exits NBC Show—Here’s Why She’s Stepping Back

Today Show host Dylan Dreyer is taking a step back from one of her many roles at NBC, officially wrapping up the seventh season of Earth Odyssey, the popular NBC docuseries she’s hosted since 2019.

The meteorologist and beloved morning show anchor made the announcement on Instagram, revealing her decision to take a break from the show after filming wrapped.

Dreyer posted on Friday morning, saying, “Wrapping SEASON 7 (!!!) of @nbcearthodyssey with a very special guest!

@raewynngrant of @wildkingdomtv fame!

Thanks to @omahazoo and @mutualofomaha for hosting us!!

While she has been a key figure in Earth Odyssey, which explores the fascinating relationship between wildlife, the environment, and humans across the globe, Dreyer made it clear that she’s taking a much-needed break for now.

But it seems her time off won’t last too long, as Wild Kingdom—another nature series on NBC—is already calling her back.

Rae Wynn-Grant, a Wild Kingdom host, commented under Dreyer’s post, saying, “It was AMAZING filming with you, Dylan! Can’t wait to have you on @wildkingdomtv.”

Dreyer, who has also been the weather forecaster for Today since 2012 and a constant presence on the show’s 3rd hour, is no stranger to juggling multiple responsibilities.

Alongside her hosting duties, she’s authored five children’s books, the latest of which, A Peek Out Your Window, was released earlier this year.

But despite her busy schedule, Dreyer has never let her career overshadow her love for family.

She and her husband, Brian Fichera, a producer and cameraman at NBC News, co-host a SiriusXM radio show called Lunch Date with Dylan & Brian.

The couple shares three young sons: Rusty, Ollie, and Calvin.

It was this very family life that led to her departure from Weekend Today in 2022.

Dreyer has always been upfront about her work-life balance, saying, “I’m 100 percent committed to my job and I love it, but I also love my family and want to be with them, too.”

In a recent interview, the NBC star admitted she’s at her limit: “I think I’ve maxed out now,” Dreyer revealed, explaining that the demands of her career and family life have finally caught up with her.
