The First Official Glimpse at the New Superman

Fans got their first official look at Corenswet as Superman back in May, but these new on-set images are the first time he’s been seen in full costume, cape and all.

A New Era Begins—Why Henry Cavill Was Replaced

Corenswet’s casting marks the end of Henry Cavill’s tenure as Superman, a decision that stirred controversy among fans.

After making a surprise return in Black Adam (2022), many believed Cavill was set to continue in the role.

However, in December, Cavill broke the news on Instagram that Gunn and Safran had different plans.

The actor will portray Clark Kent in the rebooted film series alongside Rachel Brosnahan, 32, (pictured in 2023) as Lois Lane, replacing Amy Adams, reports Deadline

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s sad news, everyone.

I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill announced.

He expressed disappointment but acknowledged the studio’s decision, stating, “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.”

Gunn later clarified the decision, saying, “We didn’t fire Henry.

Henry was never cast.

For me, this Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.”

Behind the Casting Process: Corenswet’s Journey to Becoming Superman

Landing the role of a lifetime, Corenswet was one of several actors who tested for the part in full costume and makeup.

The final selection process reportedly included British actors Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult, while Rachel Brosnahan edged out Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey for the role of Lois Lane.

In January 2023, DC Studios bosses Gunn and Safran defended their decision not to bring back Cavill as Superman as they rebooted the DC Universe with a new over-arching storyline (Cavill pictured in 2013's Man of Steel)

Corenswet’s previous credits include Netflix’s Look Both Ways, Hollywood, The Politician, and A24’s Pearl.

While these roles showcased his talent, stepping into Superman’s boots marks a career-defining moment for the young star.

The actor, 30, whose role was announced earlier this year , showcased his muscular physique and ripped arms as he donned the blue and red suit, complete with cape - while also revealing the new superhero logo
