Joe Rogan recently welcomed actor Jeremy Renner on his widely popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” where Renner opened up about the horrific snowplow accident he endured on New Year’s Day 2023, shedding light on the terrifying incident and his remarkable recovery journey.

On January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner was at his home near Lake Tahoe, hosting about 25 family members and friends for their annual holiday gathering.

The area had experienced a massive snowstorm, which Renner described as “snowageddon,” burying the mountainous region and leaving residents stranded without power for days.

Renner, prepared for the storm, initially enjoyed the isolation, spending quality time playing card games by headlamp and bonding without technology.

However, as the weather began to clear, Renner decided to venture out to clear the roads using his heavy-duty snow removal equipment, including a large snowcat.

The actor described the vehicle as resembling “something out of Star Wars,” a massive, tank-like machine weighing around 16,000 pounds. It was during this seemingly routine task that tragedy struck.

Renner recounted the harrowing moment he accidentally triggered the snowcat into motion while stepping onto its tracks to reach the cab. Realizing the machine was heading toward his nephew, Renner bravely jumped back onto it, attempting to regain control.

Tragically, he slipped and was immediately dragged underneath, with the entire vehicle running over him.

“My whole body,” Renner told Rogan, detailing how the machine’s tracks crushed him entirely, fracturing 38 bones, causing his eyeball to pop out of its socket, and nearly taking his life.

Despite the catastrophic injuries, Renner astonishingly maintained consciousness throughout the ordeal. “It felt like drowning, being struck by lightning, and bleeding out all at once,” he vividly described.

Emergency services quickly transported Renner to the hospital, where doctors initially had grim prognoses—warning his family of potential amputations and severe impairments.

Incredibly, Renner’s spine and vital organs remained largely undamaged despite the severity of the incident, a circumstance he described as miraculous.

His recovery process, however, was intensive and required groundbreaking medical interventions. A specialist surgeon from Reno, known for innovative treatments on crushing injuries common in the region due to skiing and mining accidents, was urgently called back from vacation.

This doctor led the surgical team that reconstructed Renner’s shattered bones with titanium implants and mesh reinforcements.

Renner shared with Rogan a particularly unsettling procedure where screws implanted in his jaw and skull had to be removed, an experience he described as more traumatic psychologically than the accident itself due to the haunting images and vibrations resonating through his skull.

Throughout the podcast episode, Renner emphasized his love for his family as the main motivation behind his swift recovery. “As much damage as I did to my family and their hearts, me getting better can relieve them of that burden,” he emotionally shared.

Today, Jeremy Renner astonishes doctors and fans alike with his remarkable physical condition, displaying virtually no visible impairments from the horrific accident.

However, he admitted to Rogan that he must maintain a rigorous routine of physical therapy and stretching exercises to combat lingering stiffness and pain from scar tissue and titanium implants.

“I feel like I’m maybe 110%,” Renner optimistically remarked, attributing his heightened sense of well-being to the spiritual and mental growth he experienced from surviving and overcoming such trauma.

Renner’s candid storytelling resonated deeply with Rogan’s audience, offering powerful insights into resilience, the importance of family support, and the extraordinary feats possible when human determination intersects with medical innovation.

His compelling account serves not just as a gripping tale of survival, but also as an inspiring testament to the strength of the human spirit.
